Solutions Providers to Support Palm's Future Line of Windows Mobile-based Treo Smartphones

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 27, 2005--Following Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq:PALM) and Microsoft Corp.'s (Nasdaq:MSFT) announcement yesterday, numerous third-party software developers are on board with an exciting lineup of applications for a future line of Palm(R) Treo(TM) smartphones running on the Microsoft(R) Windows Mobile(R) operating system, the first of which will be available on the Verizon Wireless network.(1)

In a press conference yesterday in San Francisco with Ed Colligan, president and chief executive officer of Palm; Bill Gates, chairman and chief software architect of Microsoft; and Denny Strigl, chief executive officer of Verizon Wireless, the companies announced that Palm has licensed the Microsoft Windows Mobile operating system for a new line of Treo smartphones. The collaboration marks a dedicated effort to deliver one of the world's most innovative smartphone solutions on the software platform favored by many businesses and deliver new productivity to mobile developers through Visual Studio 2005 and the Windows Mobile development platform.
