Palm Treo Smartphones Give SureXpress a Competitive Edge
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 6, 2006--
Award-winning Smartphone Goes Beyond Email with Signature Capture
and Tracking Software Allowing Drivers to Carry Only One Device
Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq:PALM) today announced that SureXpress, a parcel-delivery service company, has deployed 100 Treo(TM) smartphones with Socket Communications' (Nasdaq:SCKT) SD Scan Card running P.O.D Verify's Proof of Delivery software to scan barcodes and capture signatures. SureXpress' deployment of the Treo solution accelerates its delivery process, cuts billing and collection times to one day from 14 to 21 days, reduces errors, and enables a more real-time environment for customers to track their packages.
Now, SureXpress drivers need to carry only one device -- the Treo smartphone running on the Cingular Wireless network with an integrated Socket barcode scanner and the point-of-delivery software to scan and track parcels, send and receive messages, and make phone calls. The Treo smartphone wirelessly(1) collects all the tracking information and posts it to a secure website that allows customers to trace their packages, see when they are delivered and the identity of the person who signs for them. P.O.D Verify's software provides courier and transportation professionals, such as SureXpress, the ability to track items in a matter of seconds and manage pickups and deliveries nationwide.
"We looked at many alternatives and after careful consideration, chose the Palm Treo smartphone because of its advanced features and wireless capabilities and because of the fast return on investment," said Brooks Wright, president for SureXpress. "The new tracking system has delivered tangible benefits quickly. We've attracted new customers, saved on labor time and improved payment rates -- to name a few."
More companies like SureXpress are taking advantage of Palm's expanding product portfolio with hardware and software business solutions to better serve mobile professionals. Palm's flexible, standards-based approach and customer-centric model represent its commitment to serving the growing mobile needs of small, large, and global businesses.
"With 36 percent of the U.S. market share for converged products(2), the Treo continues to gain ground with businesses and mobile professionals," said Tara Griffin, vice president of enterprise markets for Palm, Inc. "SureXpress is a great example of a small business using Palm's affordable solutions to do two things: compete more effectively and offer customers a great experience."
